Demons Boys Represent at the State Schoolboys National Competition in QLD
Mitch McLleney (Manning Rippers), Deven Robertson (Manning Rippers), Lachlan Fraser (Willetton Blues) and Jack Bird (South Perth Stingrays) all members of the Perth Demons Football Development Program recently represented Western Australia at the National School Sport Australia AFL 15s Championships in Maroochydore, Queensland.
WA finished 3rd, defeating QLD in the playoff for bronze following a week of preliminary games against Tasmania, Northern Territory, Queensland and Victoria.
Deven was one of 3 WA boys to be named All Australian and the teams 2nd best player for the Carnival. Playing primarily in the midfield and across half back Deven’s straight line approach to the contest, solid marking and preparedness to run, attracted plenty of attention.
Mitch played the challenging position of CHF most of the week providing a strong lead up option and support to running players around him. His most outstanding contribution was keeping the Victorian FF to just 1 goal in a half following a 6 goal first half on a variety of defenders.
Lachlan ran through a variety of positions, sneaking a couple of goals up forward, gathering a few possessions in the midfield and then settling across half back for the final, where he intercept marked and tackled with aggression.
Jack demonstrated his versatility being used in key forward and back positions, the occasional Ruck role, and on ball. His highlights being a strong contested marking and kicking crucial goals.
All of the boys appreciate the support of the Perth Football Club, in particular, the financial support of the Past Players and Officials Association.
They now continue their football journey joining their fellow team mates in the Perth Demons Yr. 10 squad who are embarking on their carnival preparations in September and October.
