PREVIEW: Round 20 v Claremont

Friday, August 4, 2017 - 10:23 AM

The Demons return refreshed and ready to go after the bye to take on Claremont at Lathlain Park this Saturday.

The two teams will be playing for the Pyke Cup, named after father/son duo Frank and Don Pyke.

Frank Pyke played 130 games for the Perth Football Club and was a premiership player in 1966. Don Pyke was a two time premiership player at Claremont (1987 & 1996) to go with two premierships at the West Coast Eagles.

Perth hold current claim to the Pyke Cup after winning it in season 2016.

The round 20 fixture will break the current deadlock between the two teams in 2017. Claremont took first blood in round 3 but it was the Demons who took the honours in their second meeting in Round 9.

Coach Earl Spalding will be looking for a big effort from his senior group to finish the season.

The Demons will welcome back Devin McFarlane back from injury. His ball use will be a welcome addition to the senior side.

Laine Wilkins should also be considered for a recall after coming off a strong performance for the reserves in round 18 after recovering from a finger injury.

Andrew Panetta's Development side have a lot to play for as a win against Claremont will put them a game clear in second spot.

While the colts can not play finals in season 2017, Andrew Ruck will look to give opportunities to boys in order to develop for next year.

Bouncedown for the League game is 2:15pm, Development 11:30am and Colts 9am
