PROPORTIONATE SALARY CAP PENALTY WILL HELP PERTH FOOTBALL CLUB REBUILD
Perth Football Club has thanked the West Australian Football Commission for its fair dealing over a recent salary cap breach caused by an administrative oversight.
The Club has received a suspended eight Premiership Points penalty plus a $25k fine and a penalty of 15 player recruitment points, 10 of which are suspended.
Perth Football Club will also conduct monthly compliance check-ins with the Commission to ensure it is continually improving is governance practices and administrative processes.
President Adrian Barich thanked the Commission for recognising that the breach was not intentional and related to the reporting of payments for FBT and tax purposes.
“Our Club prides itself on professional administration and robust governance and we are disappointed to have made this mistake,” he said.
“We have been working closely with the West Australian Football Commission and have introduced new policies and procedures since this error came to light to ensure an incident like this cannot occur in the future.”
Mr Barich said the Perth Football Club welcomes the opportunity to work with the West Australian Football Commission on an ongoing basis to ensure it embraces a best practice approach to its governance.
“There is a great culture at Perth Football Club, but not playing finals footy for several years now has been tough on its players, members, sponsors and staff.
“We appreciate the West Australian Football Commission’s commitment to helping us turn our club around and keep our 125-year history alive.
“We are grateful that we can now put the salary cap issue behind us and move forward into a new era for Perth Football Club.”
Barich said Perth Football Club is embarking on a new strategic plan guided by the Board and driven by Coach, Mark Stone, and GM of Football, Brad Dodd, along with a new CEO.
“Once our new CEO is in place, this revitalised senior team will be taking our Club into the future with a focus on quality recruitment and skills development,” he said.
“With our passionate and talented players, fantastic sponsors and loyal members united in their support of the Demons, we are looking forward to 2025 and beyond.”
