Wim Rosbender To Be Club Legend In 2016
It is with great pleasure that the Perth Football Club would like to announce that Wim Rosbender will be the club legend for 2016.
“You question yourself as to the other people that you certainly rate above yourself in many ways. It is humbling and probably my greatest honour as far as the Perth Football Club goes as an individual,” said Rosbender on discussing when he found out that he would be this year’s legend.
Rosbender played his juniors for Vic Park before progressing to the Perth colts in 1970. In 1971 he was captain of the colts.
When Barry Cable took over as coach of the Demons in 1972, Rosbender was promoted to the league team and soon established himself as a ruckman in the side.
RWF 16s RUNNING HOT
With the temperature nudging 35 degrees at the Moora Recreational Oval, the 2016 Robert Wiley Foundation XVIs Squad took to the first of their Intra-Club Trial Games on Sunday 17th January. This was the first opportunity for new RWF XVIs Head Coach, Daine Burnett (AFL Level 3 Accredited Coach) to cast his eyes over the next crop of Demons.
The game was a bit scrambled at first, which is to be expected in the first hit out of the season and the Black Team grab the early advantage in the first term, being aided by a stiff down the ground wind. The Yellow Team fought back in the second quarter and things were even-steven at the main break. Due to the hot conditions, the quarters were reduced to 15 minutes each and both team took 15 minute breaks at the end of each quarter inside the shade of the change rooms.
Head Coach Daine is being supported by David Collard and Dean Mann as his Assistant Coaches and we have been lucky enough to secure a fantastic Team Manager in Garry Hallett and this set up is about to be complemented with the announcement of a third Assistant Coach. So the coaching group was pleased to get a comprehensive first look at their charges under match pressure.
Ruck Takes Charge Of The Colts
Recently the Perth Football Club announced that Andrew Ruck would be the new colts coach in 2016.
Ruck who has spent the past two seasons as League Assistant Coach will take over a team that last played in the finals in 2013.
Ruck played 74 games for Claremont in a career that was cut short by a knee injury he suffered in 2011. He was arguably one of if not the best ruckman in the WAFL before he got injured. While he was still playing and since he has retired Ruck has been gaining valuable experience coaching at PSA level, development squads and with the State 15’s.
“I coached the year 10’s at Wesley in the Private Schools Association for a couple of years. Before that I was involved with the State 15’s program for three to four seasons and I spent the same amount of time doing development squads at Claremont.”
Williams Looking To Develop In New Role
In 2016 Trevor Williams will embark on a new challenge at the Perth Football Club in his newly created role as Director of Coaching Colts and Development. In this position Williams will act as a talent spotter and coaching mentor to Andrew Ruck and other coaches within the Demons District.
“I won’t have a hands on coaching role per say it’s more supporting the coaching mechanisms within our colts and development programs, mentoring and helping identify some coaches in their pathway and then support them with professional learning and other coaching opportunities to hopefully promote their coaching expertise.”
Williams will be spending majority of his time with the colts program and the 16’s development squad while Player Development Officer Peter Brear will be working with the youth football programs.
Press Release: PERTH ANGELS APPOINT FORMER FALCONS BOSS
The Perth Angels Football Club, are pleased to announce the appointment of former WPFC CEO Gerry O’Dea as their new Senior Coach for 2016.
O’Dea, currently heading up Yachting WA, previously worked for the WA Football Commission for many years as Falcons District Manager where he was also responsible for their talent development programs and district coaching co-ordination. He then held the position of CEO at West Perth from 2009 to early 2013 where he continued to work closely with the Falcons District development staff.
Perth Angels FC President Kristy Geuer welcomed the appointment and said the Angels would benefit from O’Dea’s strong WAFL development background and skills training experience. “We have an enthusiastic and committed senior squad and a talented youth team and are looking forward to the training experience and guidance that Gerry will provide” she said.
