Life Members Announcement
Gavin Caudle
The Perth Football Club is immensely proud to announce that Gavin Caudle has been awarded Life Membership of the Club, recognising a contribution of rare depth, loyalty and impact that spans more than a decade.
Gavin’s association with the Perth Football Club is both long standing and deeply personal. In 2012 and 2013, the Club faced one of the most challenging periods in its history. The withdrawal of a major jumper sponsor created significant financial uncertainty and placed real pressure on the Club’s future. At a time when confidence was low and the path forward unclear, Gavin stepped forward. Through his company Provident Capital Partners, he committed to becoming the Club’s major partner, providing stability, belief and leadership when it was needed most.
From that point on, Provident Capital Partners has proudly appeared on the front of the Perth Football Club jumper and has remained a major partner for more than 13 years. That commitment has never wavered, through lean years, rebuilding phases and periods of change. Since 2013 alone, Gavin has contributed more than one million dollars in sponsorship, with no expectation of commercial return, driven purely by his belief in the Club, its people and its future.
Yet Gavin’s contribution extends far beyond financial support. He has consistently invested his time, energy and genuine care into the people of the Club. He has travelled to games, stood beside players during difficult periods, provided mentoring and employment opportunities, and quietly assisted players, staff and past players in times of need, always without seeking recognition or praise.
Within the playing group, Gavin is known for the personal messages, phone calls and coffees that provide encouragement, perspective and belief. Many players speak of the positive influence he has had on their lives, both on and off the field, helping them navigate challenges and grow as people as well as footballers.
Over many years, Gavin has also been a trusted sounding board for Club leaders, offering advice, stability and measured perspective when it has been needed most. His support has strengthened the Perth Football Club culturally, financially and strategically, and his influence can be felt across every part of the organisation today.
Life Membership of the Perth Football Club cannot be bought. It is earned through loyalty, service and a contribution that stands the test of time. Gavin Caudle embodies these values in every sense. His generosity, humility and unwavering commitment have helped carry the Club through its most challenging years and have played a significant role in positioning it for a strong and sustainable future.
The Perth Football Club congratulates Gavin Caudle on this richly deserved honour and sincerely thanks him for an extraordinary contribution that will be remembered and respected for generations to come.
Alan Johnson
The Perth Football Club is proud to celebrate and recognise the extraordinary career of Alan Johnson, one of the finest footballers to ever pull on the black and red jumper.
Alan Johnson’s achievements stand among the most respected and admired careers produced by the Perth Football Club. His time at the Club was defined by elite performance, consistency, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to excellence, qualities that saw him leave a lasting legacy both at Perth and across the game nationally.
Alan began his league career at Perth in 1975 as an 18 year old and quickly established himself as an outstanding player at the highest level. Over eight seasons at the Club, he played 140 league games, delivering remarkable service and impact throughout his time in the black and red. His football résumé at Perth includes winning the 1981 Butcher Medal as the Club’s Fairest and Best, and the 1981 Ron Tucker Memorial Award as Leading Goal Kicker. He was a key member of the premiership teams of 1976 and 1977, played in the 1978 Grand Final, and represented Western Australia on six occasions, including five State of Origin appearances.
Alan’s football excellence was further recognised with his induction into the WA Football Hall of Fame in 2017, cementing his standing as one of the greats of Western Australian football.
In 1982, Alan was recruited to the Melbourne Football Club, where he continued to perform at an elite level on the national stage. During his time at Melbourne, he played 135 league games and twice won the Keith Bluey Truscott Medal as Melbourne’s Best and Fairest, in 1983 and 1989. He was named in the 1989 VFL Team of the Year and was later inducted into the Melbourne Football Club Hall of Fame in 2013, further highlighting the esteem in which he is held across the game.
Highly regarded by coaches, teammates and opponents alike, Alan was known as a match winner, an outstanding team man and a player respected throughout the competition. His skill, pace and all round football ability made him a formidable opponent and a leader within any team environment.
Despite relocating to Melbourne in the early 1980s, Alan has always maintained a strong and genuine connection to the Perth Football Club. He returns regularly to reconnect with former teammates, friends and the Club, and has remained an active and valued part of the Perth football family. In recent years, he has attended team reunions whenever possible and was a guest speaker at the Coffee Club in 2024, continuing to generously give back to the Club that helped shape his career.
Alan Johnson’s legacy is one of excellence, loyalty and enduring connection. His achievements at both state and national level reflect not only an exceptional football career, but also a deep respect for the game and the clubs he represented with distinction. The Perth Football Club proudly honours Alan Johnson for his outstanding contribution and celebrates his place among the very best to have worn the black and red.
