THE LAST OF THE ‘DALTON GANG’
Barry Dalton, the last surviving of the three member “Dalton gang” who thrilled Perth fans in the late 1950s and 1960s, has died in Geraldton.
Barry won the fairest and best award for Perth’s Thirds (now Colts) in 1959 and made his league debut the following season, joining older brother Don, who had already proved himself to be a sharp shooter around the goals with 59 majors in 1958 and 40 in 1959.
They were then joined by younger brother Pat – the 1970 Sandover Medallist – marking a rare occasion when three brothers were playing together in the same league side.
However Barry’s league career was dogged by bad luck and he was only able to play 29 senior games before heading to Geraldton and the Brigades Football Club, where he had great success and established himself as a legend of the Great Northern Football League.
Sadly Barry’s activities were severely curtailed in recent years after suffering a massive stroke. The club extends its sincere sympathy to the Dalton family in their sad loss.
Footnote: The three Dalton brothers notched up an impressive total of 364 league games for the Demons and made an enormous contribution to our club.
