Match Report: Perth Football Club WAFL vs Claremont

Round 6, WAFL League | May 9, 2026

It was a tough challenge for the boys on Saturday at Mineral Resources Park, going down to an undefeated Claremont side in Round 6.

Despite the result, there were several strong performances across the ground, particularly through the midfield. Corey Byrne led the way with an outstanding 32 disposals and a goal, continuing his strong form around the contest. He was well supported by Matthew Taylor (26 disposals), Charlie Constable (24 disposals, 6 inside 50s), and Austin Davis (19 disposals, 5 inside 50s), who all worked hard to generate drive and territory through the middle of the ground.

Around stoppages, Joshua Edwards battled strongly in the ruck with 20 hit outs, while Zac Harding also contributed with 22 hit outs to give our midfielders opportunities around the ball.

Up forward, Aaron Clarke was our main threat in attack, finishing with 3 goals in an important performance inside 50. Jack Kluske and Riley Wills also added majors as the side fought to stay in the contest.

Defensively, the backline was tested throughout the afternoon but continued to compete strongly under pressure. Elijah Scoble collected 16 disposals, while Charlie Dean worked hard in the air and around the contest, finishing with 13 disposals and 7 marks.

As a team, we recorded 321 disposals and laid 46 tackles, showing strong effort and intent against one of the competition’s benchmark sides. While Claremont’s polish and ability to capitalise on key moments proved the difference, there were still positives to take from the performance and the way the group continued to compete across four quarters.

The State Game bye now provides an opportunity to reset and prepare for another big challenge ahead.

Next up: After the State Game bye, we return to Mineral Resources Park on Saturday, May 23 to take on West Perth.
