Round 2 Preview Perth vs West Perth
Perth open their home-and-away season against West Perth at HBF Arena on Saturday Afternoon and will be looking for some early momentum as the team looks to drive themselves back up the ladder after finishing ninth in 2015.
The Demons list has been bolstered during the offseason with new recruits Clint Jones, Angus Graham, Spencer White, Kristian Cary, Taran Etto, Stephen Mills, Laine Wilkins and the returning Julian Jacobs and Aaron Zucconi all a chance to line-up against the Falcons. Combined these players have added roughly 600 games of AFL/State League experience to the team.
West Perth on the other hand have lost 452 games of experience with Ray Bartholomew and Marc Crisp retiring, Marcus Adams getting drafted to the Western Bulldogs, Jordan Jones now playing in the VFL and Matthew Johnson and Mitch Van Berlo both out with work commitments this season.
Last week the Falcons were no match for the quick ball movement of South Fremantle and went down by 35-points. Aaron Black (26 possessions, 2 goals) was a strong performer while Jay Van Berlo (26) and the inaccurate Andrew Strijk (24 disposals, 3 behinds) were other solid contributors.
Former Perth player Joel Leeson who moved to the Falcons in the offseason looked to injure his ankle last week against South Fremantle but played out the rest of the game and will come up against his old side for the first time in his career.
In the reserves West Perth narrowly lost by 5-points with Steven Potente putting his hand up for a recall with 28 possessions, 3 marks, 4 tackles, 4 I50’s.
The day didn’t get any better for the Falcons with the colts losing by 104-points.
Bounce down is at 2:15pm, following the Reserves at 11:30am. Please note the Colts will be played at 5pm as the Robert Wiley Foundation's 16's game will be played at 9am.
