Round 3 Preview Perth vs Claremont

Wednesday, March 30, 2016 - 10:00 AM by Andrew Owen

After a wet and scrappy game against West Perth last week Perth will be looking to secure their first win of the season against a Claremont team who was very impressive against East Perth back in round one.

The Demons were gallant against the Falcons and got within a goal early in the last quarter but their opposition lifted when it mattered kicking five straight goals to run out 41-point winners.

Perth was hampered by injuries to Aidan Tropiano in the first half and some undisciplined acts that resulted in goals to West Perth.  Clint Jones battled manfully with 46 possessions despite having his left hamstring heavily strapped in the second half.  Dene White also appeared to injure an ankle but played out the remainder of the game.

Angus Graham had the better of his ruck duel against Chris Keunen with 41 hit outs while Julian Jacobs and Liam McKenna both had 25 disposals each.  Zac Fisher showed why the Demons were keen to receive permission for him to play league football as a first year State 18’s player with 23 possessions, four tackles and two goals.

In the reserves a goalless last quarter cost the Demons as they went down by eight-points against the Falcons.

Fraser Millar could be in line to make his league debut for the club after collecting 32 disposals, four marks and three tackles last week while Kieran Hug 23 possessions, eight tackles and Brett Wolfenden 18 disposals, six tackles and a goal are other names that could be talked about at the selection table this week.

In the colts Perth kept West Perth to a measly 15-points for the whole game and won the match by 28-points.

An impressive performance on Saturday will be important for both teams as the Demons look to kick start their season and the Tigers look to continue building momentum in 2016, meaning both will be desperate to come away with the four points.

Claremont has won seven of the last nine encounters between these two teams with an average winning margin of 54-points.

After making his debut 11 years ago and now in his third spell at the club, Aaron Zucconi looks set to finally play his 100th league game for the Perth Football Club.

Bounce down is at 2:15pm, following the Reserves at 11:30am and Colts at 9am while the Robert Wiley Foundation XVI’s will be playing at 5pm.
