Aaron Zucconi Reaches 100 Games

Friday, April 1, 2016 - 10:00 AM by Andrew Owen

Aaron Zucconi looks finally set to play his 100th game for the Perth Football Club against Claremont this week.

Coming back to the club over the offseason Zucconi played his 99th game last weekend against West Perth and was solid in defence helping keep Nick Rodda and Michael Lourey to one goal between them.

“It’s good to come back for one last go and to challenge myself to see if I am still capable of playing at this level.”

Zucconi who played his junior football for South Perth first became associated with the Demons when he was a part of various development squads in his early teens.  He then progressed to the colts program before making his league debut in 2005 against Subiaco.  He went on to play nine games that season.

He went on to play a total of 75 games between 2005 and 2009 in his first stint at the club.  In 2010 he took a year off to go and play football with his school mates from Trinity Aquinas but returned to the club in 2011 and 2012 were he added a further 23 games to his tally before taking another break to go and play country football down at South Mandurah.

“I think it was unrealistic for me to say that I was going to stay in the WAFL system continuously for 10-15 years.”

“I always said to myself that I wanted to play at the highest level that I can but for one year or more I would like to take time off and go and play with my friends to have that experience in life.”

“So I always had it in the back of my mind that in some stage during my 20’s I would do this.  Firstly with Trinity in 2010 and then the last couple of years it’s been great to experience country footy with South Mandurah.”

Against the Tigers Zucconi will exit the change rooms and run down the race for the 100th time as a league player for the Perth Football Club.

“I owe a lot to Perth.”

“It’s a place where I have grown up really since I was 13.”

“Even though we haven’t always seen eye-to-eye throughout the years they have still given me an opportunity to have a good life.”

“It means a lot to me to be able to represent this club.  It’s where I come from, it’s part of my history and I guess it’s what makes me, me.”

This football club means more to me than just the 100 games or the eight seasons of league football that I’ve played.  For me it’s so much more from going through the development squads, to the opposition that you would encounter over the years to the players, the supporters and the support staff that would come through and you become friends with.”

Congratulations Aaron on your impending milestone from everyone at the Perth Football Club.
