Round 16 Preview Perth vs Subiaco

After holding on for a nail bitting four-point win last week against Claremont, Perth take on top of the table Subiaco in the NAIDOC round clash at Lathlain Park this Saturday.

The Tigers started the game better kicking three goals to one in the opening quarter but the Demons probably should have kicked more instead of the seven behinds they registered.

Perth responded in the second quarter kicking five goals to one and at half time led by 22-points despite having 12 more scoring shots than their opposition.

Claremont hit back in the third quarter kicking five goals to two to trail by just seven-points at the last change.

In what was a pulsating last quarter both teams traded goals and the lead changed several times before Spencer White was able to take a strong contested mark inside forward 50 which he converted, putting the Demons four-points up which was the final margin.

Aidan Tropiano continued his mid season purple patch and was best afield collecting 32 possessions, five marks, five tackles, seven I50’s and a goal.

Cody Leggett who kicked seven goals against East Fremantle played a tagging role on Jye Bolton, quelling his influence on the game while Lennon Marlin and Brent Latch were shining lights down back.

Clint Jones (37 disposals, eight tackles, one goal) continued his good form this season, Michael Sinclair (23, six marks) and Liam McKenna (20, six marks, nine tackles, four I50’s) were others to impress.

Unfortunately for Perth they lost Jared Bell early in the game to a knee injury and he will have to get through training this week if he is to line up against the Lions.

Subiaco found themselves behind early on against Swan Districts but kicked ten goals to one in the second and third quarters to set up their 34-point win.

The Lions will likely be without their captain when they take on the Demons after Kyal Horsley suffered a hamstring injury against Swans.  Subiaco will also be without onballers Leigh Kitchin and Wayde Twomey who have been given one match bans for striking and rough conduct.

In the reserves Perth lost by 26-points with Marshall Jones (24 possessions, eight marks, five I50’s, one goal), Ashley Boyes (23, six marks), Taran Etto (21, six marks, four tackles) and Callum Walley (six goals) all performing strongly.  The Lions defeated Swan Districts by 33 points.

In the colts the Demons lost only their second game of the season, going down to the Tigers by 18-points while Subiaco lost by 42 points. 

This weekend also has extra special significance for the Perth Football Club. With the hand over to the West Coast Eagles expected to be completed before our next home game on August 13^th, this will be the last time that you will be able to experience Lathlain Park as you have known it over the years.

Family passes will be available for the day which will allow families to come in for free.  These passes can be picked up from the office.
