Match Report: Round 10, Demons v Bulldogs
Round 10, 2018. Demons v Bulldogs. Lathlain Park.
The game when the Demons ended the Bulldogs’ eight game winning streak against us. The mighty Demons brought everything to the game, successfully wearing down a powerful South Fremantle side.
South Fremantle started Saturday’s clash confidently. In what was an ominous opening, they kicked two goals in the first six minutes.
Quarter time showed the Bulldogs holding a 20 point lead. Our boys refused defeat. In an engaging second term, aided by the breeze, we kicked six goals to one. By the long break were 11 points up.
The Demons then kicked the first two goals of the third term, extending our lead to 23 points. South Fremantle kicked eight of the next nine goals either side of three quarter-time. When Mason Shaw kicked his sixth goal, South lead by 20 points.
The Demons demonstrated the level of tenacity expected of a senior WAFL team and refused to buckle under the pressure exerted by South Fremantle.
Coming from 20 points down at the five minute mark of the last quarter, a 27th minute goal by Kristian Cary broke the deadlock. The Demons went on to kick the last four goals of the game.
Aided by some great pressure acts from Dennis, McFarlane, Taylor and Byrne in the dying minutes the Demons were able to hold on and win by a solitary goal.
Player of the Week, Lachlan Dennis, kicked a career-high five goals for Perth, supported by Anton Scotney who booted two.
Captain Clint Jones gathered 32 possessions for the Demons, Brant Colledge 29, Corey Yeo 26, Michael Sinclair 22 and Devin McFarlane 21.
