Football Department Update
The PFC Football Department would like to update all our members and supporters that late last week we met with Michael Johnson, who has made the difficult decision to retire from senior football and will not be able to commit to WAFL football in 2019.
Michael Johnson met with our Football Operations Manager, Dale Ballantyne, late last week and explained that despite having a willing mind, his body was no longer able to stand the rigours of modern-day football. With a young family, Michael has considered all options, prior to making his decision.
Coming into discussions with the Club it was agreed that Michael would be given time to assess his body’s capability of playing in the WAFL in 2019. Whilst unfortunate, we respect Johnno’s decision and understand what his body has been through in an outstanding career in the AFL. We wish him all the best with life post-football.
It is wonderful to have Josh Burke back at Perth FC after a year in Sydney. Josh played 8 senior games in 2017, including the last 6 in an impressive debut season. Also returning to Lathlain Park after a year away are impressive junior players in Zareth Roe, Cody Kickett and Brodey Eades.
In 2017 the Club made the strategic decision to develop our own, which is now proving to be a positive decision by the club. 12 Colts from our 2018 squad are still training with the seniors group and we are certainly excited to see how the likes of Ethan Hansen, Connor Sing and Austin Davis develop, as we are with the other nine boys.
