PERTH SECURE MEDIA PARTNER
The Perth Football Club is proud to announce we have secured Murdoch University as ‘Media Partner.’ Throughout the 2019 WAFL season the Club will work with Murdoch’s students in the creation of video content.
The Perth Football Club is excited about working with Murdoch University and what it offers our members and supporters. The program with Murdoch University centres on reliving the highlights of the 2019 season, sharing behind the scenes videos with Demons fans and telling the stories on those who have made our club great over the last 120 years.
This program offers the Club a unique oppotunity to increase our communications with members, partners and supporters alike.
On establishing the program, Perth Football Club Director of Marketing Mark Treasure stated “this is a great initiative, delivering quality content to the Perth Football Club and enabling Murdoch University Media Students to hone their craft as they transition through to the workplace.”
Directed by Dr Glen Stasiuk, Screen Production Program Chair at Murdoch University and Managing Director of local production company BlackRussian Productions, the participating student cohort are gaining practical work experience in the sports industry.
In order to get the program up and running, Glen is contributing his own time and efforts to enhance the education of his students, and support a Club he believes in.
"As a teacher of media and film at Murdoch University and a managing director of BlackRussian Productions I view the relationship between our Screen program and Murdoch University and the Perth Football Club as a great opportunity to form strategic partnerships to train and nurture our students and future filmmakers under real-life, dynamic and corporate conditions and scenarios," Glen commented.
"The best classroom as far as I am concerned is the real classroom of life and the corporate world – and the fast-paced and competitive environment of the WAFL and Perth Demons and the interaction with their staff, players and fans offers this in droves."
The Murdoch University Media Crew consists of five students; Samuel Tetlaw, Joel Kanagalingam, Chloe Holmes, Jason Cappello, Ayden Jamieson.
For the next generation of industry professionals, this opportunity provides invaluable learning experiences. Budding Director and Producer, Ayden Jamieson, hopes to use the experiences he gains in the program to launch his career.
“Having this opportunity while being a student is a massive privilege for me. I hope to get experience out of participating in the program to be able to produce and direct more content like this,” Ayden said.
Sam Tetlaw, Editor, is currently in his first year of a Bachelor of Creative Media, majoring in Screen Production and Games Art Design. On participating in the program, he stated “when signing up for the program, I hoped it would be a challenging but rewarding experience and so far it has been just that. I'm very thankful to the Perth Football Club for providing this opportunity for me and my peers and I look forward to a strong working relationship in the future.”
Sound-guru, Jason Cappello is completing a Bachelor of Arts, with majors in Sound and Screen Production. A keen footy fan, he is motivated to combine his passion for football with film and sound, “this opportunity has simultaneously enabled me to gain vital industry experience in sports media, which I hope to delve more into in the future. I look forward to honing my skills in sound recording, sound editing and film work throughout my tenure with the Demons. I hope I can help provide content that supporters enjoy while strengthening their pride for their football club. Go Dees!”
The Perth Football Club would like to thank the players, members and supporters who have taken part in the videos with Murdoch University so far. If you see the crew around on game day, make sure you offer them your support for the great work they are doing for our club.
