Tuesday, May 28, 2019 - 9:31 AM

The Perth Football Club is proud to welcome Fugro Australia Marine Pty Ltd to the Club as the Major Partner of our Round 14 NAIDOC Round. The focus of the partnership is on increased positive engagement through support and development of the Club’s Aboriginal engagement programs and opportunities.

Engaging a partner for this round has been a key priority for the Club as we have one of the highest percentage of Aboriginal players in the WAFL competition. The partnership will allow the Club the opportunity to continue to fund our Aboriginal Engagement Programs, supporting all Aboriginal players, their communities and the wider communities. These programs include our work at Banksia Hill Youth Detention Centre, through to our residential house.

Having been introduced to Fugro by long-time supporter Patrick Hipworth, it was pleasing to find out that Fugro had recently completed their ‘Reconciliation Action Plan.’ In doing so, they were seeking ways to commit to the plan, wanting more connection with Aboriginal people and their communities.

On securing the partnership, Sponsorship Administrator Jared Bell stated “The NAIDOC Round is important to the Club and the wider community. Our partnership with Fugro is another great step forward in continuing to strengthen our Aboriginal engagement within the community.”

“It has been a pleasure working with Fugro and we look forward to strengthening our relationship.”

Fugro has acknowledged that their Reconciliation journey has just begun, the Perth Football Club is gratefully that we can assist and play our role in helping all stakeholders involved, strive for a better future for everyone.

Chris Eastwell, Director of Commercial at Fugro, is positive about establishing the partnership.

“Fugro is very proud to be partnering with the Perth FC in support of their significant Aboriginal Engagement programs and strategies. Fugro has a clear objective of reaching as many young Aboriginal people as possible by providing personal growth opportunities through education and life skills development.

When we met with the Perth FC we were more blown away by the activities currently in place to support young Aboriginal boys and girls. After meeting with the team and seeing what was happening at Perth FC we simply had to offer our support and we were honoured when the Perth FC welcomed us onboard. We believe and hope our partnership will go from strength to strength and together we can provide opportunities for many young Aboriginal boys and girls to not only excel at football but also in life.”

The Perth Football Club is working toward engaging a full-time Aboriginal Engagement Officer (AEO). This will allow the Club to better work with and support our Aboriginal players, their communities and the wider community.
