Quick chats with Yeoy
Eight rounds into the 2019 season and leading into what will arguably the toughest match yet, we checked in with Club Captain Corey Yeo to get the down-low on how he thinks the season is going so far.
We’re eight rounds into the 2019 season. How do you rate the season so far?
We’re going pretty good so far. 6 for 2 is the best start to a season we’ve had in a while. Obviously we dropped the ball in two games that we expected to win, but it was a steep learning curve and on the weekend we showed we can bounce back when we’re up against it.
It’s your first year as Club Captain. How are you finding it?
There have been a few challenges in the role so far and I’ll admit I’ve made some mistakes along the way, but I’m learning a lot from them. I’m getting my head around the role and really starting to enjoy it.
What are three key things you and the rest of the team have learned this season?
- We know our best footy can serve it to some of the best sides.
- Our depth is good. We’ve had solid improvement on last year and have players who can move within different roles.
- From what we’ve seen so far, it’s shaping up to be an even competition where everyone is competitive.
Highlight of the season so far?
Has to be the win against Swans. On the back of two losses to manage to come from 27 down and get the win showed a lot.
How are you feeling heading into Round 9 against Subiaco?
I'm looking forward to it, it will be a good challenge. We're going in confident that if we can play our best footy for all four quarters that we can come away with a result. This will be a challenge for us, though, as I don't think we have done that yet.
What can the Perth supporters expect from the side for the rest of the season?
Eight rounds in and we’re planning to continue on form. We’ve been working on our ball movement, which hasn’t always been sustained. The boys are giving it every effort to push and achieve some great results for the Club.
A message to the members?
Thank you for your support so far this season. It’s been great to see the crowds at the games. Please continue to back us and have confidence in the group. It’s been a while since the Club has had the taste of success, but please stick by us as we give this season all we’ve got.
