Sinclair and McInnes to lead Perth in 2021
The Perth Football Club are pleased to announce Fraser McInnes and Michael Sinclair as Co-Captains for the 2021 Optus WAFL Season.
Following an in depth voting process involving the playing group and coaching staff, 2020 Butcher medallist Fraser McInnes and 2016 Butcher Medallist Michael Sinclair, will take charge of the senior group, with Matthew Rogers being named as Vice-Captain. Brady Grey, Chris Masten and Christian Eyres were all named to an experienced leadership group.
“It’s a great honour to team up with Sincs to lead the club. The club has been building for the past couple of years and we need to keep striving to continually improve.
I am really looking forward to working with Sincs, who I played with here a number of years ago. He has done the hard yards here more than anyone for the past decade and it is great recognition for himself on his personal development and the effort he has put in" said Fraser on his appointment.
Michael Sinclair commented “to be appointed as co-captain of the club is a great honour and a role I’m really looking forward to step up to. To have come through the Perth development programs and being around the senior group since 2013 I can’t thank the club, board, coaches, players and staff enough for what they have done on and off field for myself over the years and I’m really looking forward to leading the club.
I’m really excited to be working alongside Frase whose leadership and commitment to the club since his return from the AFL and Eagles system at the start of last year has been second to none and obviously the rest of the leadership group (Eyres, Masten, Grey & Rogers) for Mossy in his first year as Senior Coach.
The club has been continually improving over the past few seasons and our role as leaders is to help drive those high standards that has got the club back into a good position and keep striving to improve. I think the group is really looking forward to getting stuck in to the 2021 season and we can’t wait to be back out on our home deck in front of our fans for round 1”.
From Football Operations Manager Trevor Williams, “following our leadership voting process held last week, the recommendations were endorsed by the Perth Football Club Board and will see Michael and Fraser work as Co-captains for the 2021 season. Veteran Matt Rogers will provide support to ‘Sincs’ and ‘Frase’ in the vice captaincy role.
Albeit we are breaking new ground in appointing Co-Captains, the club sees it as a positive move in endorsing two locally developed Perth players to lead the club forward in 2021 and beyond.”
The Perth Football Club wishes to thank outgoing Captain Corey Yeo for his last two season's at the helm. Corey's contribution to lead the club has been outstanding and has set the foundations for the playing group to build on.
Corey maintains a valued part of the Perth Football Club and is continuing his recovery from off season surgery.
