Football Update from Trevor Williams
Welcome to season 2022. As all players have returned post Christmas to continue their preparation for the upcoming season. The exceptions being those who are currently ‘trapped’ interstate due to Covid rules. We do hope to see them arrive back in Perth sometime after Feb 5th.
The Coaching staff are very pleased with the progress of the senior players, as they returned in good shape, running PB’s with 2km Time Trial. Our Head of Strength and Conditioning has implemented a new Strength and Speed Program to the players and they are embracing the workload with great enthusiasm.
We are certainly looking to improve on last year’s efforts, but in particular we are excited by the development of the young Reserves players, who were successful in winning the Premiership in 2021. They are training really well, with Deklyn Grocott, Jayden Quill, Conor McPartland and Jacob Peletier, to name a few, are impressing during Match Sim drills.
Our Senior Players, led by Fraser McInnes, Michael Sinclair, Josh Smith and Hayden Busher are in good shape and in full training following injury interruptions last season. Corey Byrne, 2021 Butcher Medallist, and Matthew Taylor along with new recruits, Ajang Ajang, Brayden Ainsworth, Kieran Hug and Jordan Busher are also impressing and setting high standards on the track for others to follow.
The Senior squad is currently training on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights from 5.30-7.30pm. Members and supporters are welcome to come and view the progress of the squad at any of these sessions.
