Catch up with Head Coach and New Father Garry Moss.

The Perth Football Club congratulate Garry and Ingrid on thier arrival of their first baby.

How is the family and how is it being a new father and juggling training?

It’s been a wonderful time, baby and Mum are going really well. The timing has been pretty good, we have been able to get all our systems and training into a really good spot where everyone knows what they are doing and the program is in a place where it can be driven by all coaches and leaders. The balance has been good, it has certainly made me appreciate getting to training and working with the players and coaches.

How has pre season been to date? Any highlights?

The pre-season has been good, we have been in work since November 29. We are at the stage where we are ready to play opposition, that is still a little bit of time away but we are well prepared physically and in a much better place that this time last year. There has been a focus on improving the conditioning of the group, something the players have really embraced and attacked. In a footballing sense we have had a strong focus on the way we defend and have put in a lot of work on developing that side of our game.

Who has progressed well and shaping up for a good year?

A number of players have had great summers, some of our senior players who were hampered by injury last year have been able to complete large parts of the pre-season with limited sessions missed. Fraser McInnes and Michael Sinclair have really led the way with their training output and their durability. Austin Davis has been able to build on last season and has completed every training session, he is ready for a big season. Jayden Hunter, Nyika John and Jacob Peletier are others that have been excellent with their application during the pre-season and we look forward to seeing their continual improvement.

What can Dees fans look forward to seeing this year?

We will be an effort based team – fans will be able to see this group give it everything they have week in week out. We want to be a consistent and reliable football team who delivers on the non-negotiables every week. We are looking to continually improve and get better at every training session to put us in a position to be highly competitive throughout the season. We have worked hard over the pre-season to make sure we are in a position to deliver this.

Any new roles for any players?

No real changes in roles for individual players – we have had a focus on making sure everyone is clear on their individual role and what is expected of them. One of the benefits of the difficulties we faced last season was we were able to create some depth in a number of roles. We had a number of young players who had significant exposure at league level, they now have a clear understanding of what is required to play at the level which has created competition for spots and growth in our squad.
