Futures Wrap Up.

Wednesday, April 20, 2022 - 2:21 PM

As the League side kicked off their season over the weekend, our Futures played their final match which saw the South West Talent Academy travel to Mineral Resources Park to round out the 6 game Futures season.

With COVID still looming, it was quite unclear as to how this Futures season would play out and running a program in the current climate sure did present many challenges. However, as we reflect on the 6 games, what a joy it was to see 51 players from throughout Perth’s metro and regional zone, get an opportunity to pull on the red and black jumper.

“The campaign had some significant challenges with the Covid-19 landscape. Teams were changing by the hour, with up to 16 changes taking place per week. The positive in that situation was players got opportunity to play. It’s a credit to everyone involved that we were able to navigate the changes and keep moving forward.” Head Coach, Scott Moore said.

Whilst the group walk away recording just a solitary win, all players showed great improvement across the program. A key focus throughout the season was ensuring players further developed their skills and gained an introduction into game plan principles.

In addition to the progression of the group, players Cooper Moore and Ali Al Shuweli have been selected in the WA State 16s Academy as a result of their performances throughout the Futures campaign.

“I’m really proud of both players and their development through the program. Both Ali and Cooper have shown a drive to improve and were able to perform in games. It’s a nice reward for them to continue in the talent pathway.” Moore commented.

In conclusion, none of this is possible without the contribution of our Futures coaches and support staff, who play such a sacrificial role in helping develop the future players of the Perth football Club. Thank you too all involved.
