Rogers Cup - Season Recap
Season Recap and Future Prospects for Perth Football Club’s Roger's Cup Team
The second season of Perth Football Club’s Roger's Cup competition has concluded with a thrilling match against the undefeated West Perth side and the eventual Premiers. This game was a testament to the growth and determination of our team throughout the season. Despite facing a formidable opponent, our players demonstrated resilience and competitive spirit, making it a closely contested match.
Throughout the season, our team showed significant improvement, not only in their overall development but also in their win-loss record. The dedication and hard work of our players and coaches were evident as we secured victories in both our practice games and won 6 out of 14 home and away matches. These achievements are a testament to the relentless effort and commitment of everyone involved in the team.
Several close finishes throughout the season might have cost us an even better scorecard of win/loss, but the team's perseverance and spirit shone through in every game. Unfortunately, we were plagued by a series of season-ending injuries that impacted our performance. Key players were sidelined, but this challenge turned into an opportunity for others to step up. We utilised our full roster of 40 girls, which allowed us to showcase the depth and talent within our squad. This experience has not only strengthened our team but also laid a strong foundation for future seasons.
Looking ahead, our focus shifts to maintaining the momentum we've built this year. The upcoming development squad sessions will commence in late July, providing a platform for young talents to hone their skills and prepare for the next level. These sessions will culminate in several matches against other WAFL clubs, giving our players valuable competitive experience. Last year’s development squad was incredibly productive, with many players making the leap to our Roger's Cup team. We anticipate similar success this year, as we continue to develop and nurture our young athletes.
We are excited about the advancements in our female football program and are optimistic about the potential inclusion of our first WAFLW team in the competition. This marks a significant milestone in our journey as a Club, reflecting our commitment to promoting and supporting women's football and the female pathway in our zone. Preparations for the pre-season training for this new team are set to begin later in the year. Establishing a WAFLW team will provide our players with new opportunities and challenges, further enhancing their development and our club's reputation.
The future looks bright for the Perth Football Club’s female football program. We are committed to building on this season’s successes and achieving even greater heights in the years to come. Our players, coaches, and supporters can look forward to an exciting journey ahead as we continue to grow and excel in the Roger's Cup and beyond. Together, we will strive to make Perth Football Club a powerhouse in women's football, creating a culture of excellence, resilience, and sportsmanship.
Players, Coaches and volunteers interested in being part of our WAFLW team can email their background/CV & interest to the Club.
