DEMONS LOOK IMPRESSIVE EARLY
By Mark Thornber
Perth started their preseason in impressive style on Saturday recording a 41 point win over South Fremantle at Brownes Stadium. The home side won the match 12.14 86 to South Fremantle’s 6.9 45.
The victory saw the Demons play some excellent team football as they played some of their key recruits and young starts from last season’s Colts squad. Perth set up their win with a 5 goal second term as a super fit Daniel O’Sullivan and Matthew Moody found plenty of the ball in the midfield. Paul Bevan booted 3 goals with Mark Deaves and Reese Richardson both kicking 2 majors each.
Former Peel ruckman Dan Murray showed great touch on the ball and looks set to play a big part in Perth’s ruck stocks this season. Former Hawthorn Premiership Player Chance Bateman returned to Brownes Stadium and showed he has not lost any of his silky skills.
Other recruits to impress were key position player Jared Risol, who was played in both the forward and back half and Frankston recruit Jackson Sketcher displayed a real toughness at the contest and looks a handy addition to Perth’s midfield brigade this year.
Next Saturday Perth plays Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval in another practice match scheduled to commence at 10.30 am.
