Gold Coast Sun Jaeger O’Meara capped off a terrific season when he was named the winner of the 2013 NAB AFL Rising Star Award.
O’Meara had a stellar debut season, collecting 476 possessions, laying 111 tackles and kicking 16 goals from the 22 games that he played for the Suns this year.
O’Meara polled 44 out of a possible 45 votes to receive the medal ahead of Adelaide’s Brad Crouch who received 31 votes and Port Adelaide’s Ollie Wines who had 26. He polled the maximum five votes from eight of the nine judges.
O’Meara received his nomination in round five this season when he collected 25 possessions, five marks, four tackles and kicked two goals against Greater Western Sydney.
O’Meara had the most disposals, most contested possessions, most clearances and most tackles of the 23 Rising Star Nominees.
O’Meara, originally from Dongara, played for the Perth Football Club before moving to the other side of the country to continue his career at the Suns.
The Perth Football Club would like to congratulate O’Meara on this wonderful achievement in his football career and wish him all the best for season 2014.
