Perth District enjoys successful Nicky Winmar Carnival
The Nicky Winmar squad started with training two days a week Tuesdays and Thursdays at treasure road oval Queens Park 6:00pm to 7:30pm. With numbers building leading up to the carnival we averaged 20 boys per training session which was a great outcome. All the boys that were playing in the carnival received a training pack which had a t-shirt and shorts which had the Perth logos to represent the Perth district. There was a lot talent on display at training which was a great sign with future afl prospects and it was a great sign leading up to the carnival knowing that we had chance of winning the carnival. We had organized a bus to leave from treasure road oval Queens Park 7:15am the morning of the Nicky Winmar Carnival with Scott Faulkner the driver of the bus.
The morning of the carnival we all meet at Queens Park oval and it was great to see all the boys ready so there was no waiting for anyone which was great and our bus driver Scott Faulkner was very happy. So we were on our way to the carnival with the boys packed and ready for a big day of football, we were on our way to Bendigo bank stadium Mandurah where the carnival was located. There were three games each team played throughout the day our first games was at 10:00am against East Fremantle with Perth losing by only one point. And it ended up being the only game Perth lost, and we made it all the way to the semifinal with our first opponents East Perth it was a great game with Perth being strong and winning by two goals. This pushed us to the final with Perth vs Claremont with all team excited and ready to go. It was a great game with Perth winning by two goals and the Perth District Team winning the grand final, it was a great outcome with all the hard work the boys put on to the training track and the coach and team manager it paid off with Perth District team winning the 2014 Nicky Winmar Carnival.
The Perth District hopes that everyone had a great day, and we look forward to seeing all the boys back next year!!
