Demons Outlast The Tigers
After losing 18 games in a row Perth have finally broken through for a win, defeating Claremont by 9-points.
In what at times was a frustrating game to watch for both sets of supporters the Demons were down by as much as 28-points late in the second quarter. Two quick goals to Brett Wolfenden and Brennan Stack had the margin back to 16-points at half time and gave the team some hope heading into the second half.
During the third quarter Perth took control of the game. Lead by Liam McKenna (12 disposals for the quarter), Dene White (8), Wolfenden (8, 2 goals), Aidan Tropiano (7, 3 tackles) and the pace of Callum Walley the Demons were able to level the scores up heading into the last quarter.
In what was a tightly contested final term with neither side willing to give an inch, no one scored for the first six minutes until Perth registered a behind, putting them ahead. Toby Gianatti then kicked a goal giving the Demons some breathing space before Darcy Cameron replied for the Tigers. Late in the last quarter though Michael Florio found himself alone inside 50 and was able to kick truly and seal the game.
McKenna finished with a game high 34 possessions, 11 marks while other strong contributors for the team were Tropiano (25 disposals, 15 clearances, 8 tackles), White (25 possessions, 10 marks), Jared Bell (23 disposals, 7 tackles), Jacob Payne (22 possessions, 7 marks) and Wolfenden (21 disposals, 6 marks, 7 I50’s, 3 goals).
