Demons Powerless To Resist as Lions Roar
Subiaco has secured top spot and a rest in the first week of the finals with a comprehensive 93-point victory over Perth.
The Demons led at quarter time after debutant Scott Moore kicked his first goal after the siren but from there the Lions dominated kicking eight goals in the second quarter and 11 goals after half time to win 22.15 (147) to 8.6 (54)
Subiaco made the most of their opportunities when they went forward registering 37 scoring shots from their 57 I50’s. Kyle Halligan (six goals), Matthew Boland (five goals) and Christopher Phelan (four goals) were the main contributors while Reece Blechynden and Michael Wood each kicked two goals.
Aidan Tropiano (28 possessions, 6 marks, 7 tackles, 3 I50’s), Liam McKenna (27 disposals, 8 marks, 5 tackles. 3 I50’s, 1 goal) Jarryd Morton (22 possessions, 4 marks) and Brett Wolfenden (21 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 5 I50’s) tried hard for Perth while Callum Walley kicked a career best four goals.
Sam Menegola showed why he will be in contention on Sandover Medal night with a dominant display through the midfield. Menegola amassed a game high 32 possessions, took five marks, laid three tackles and sent the ball inside 50 nine times. He could have perhaps capped off his day if he kicked straighter in front of goal only registering one goal from his four shots.
The minor grades were split with the Lions winning the reserves by 62-points and the Demons winning the colts by 44-points. That win keeps Perth’s slim finals chances alive.
The Demons are at home for the last time in 2015 next week when they take on Peel Thunder while Subiaco are at home to East Fremantle.
