RWF 16s RUNNING HOT
With the temperature nudging 35 degrees at the Moora Recreational Oval, the 2016 Robert Wiley Foundation XVIs Squad took to the first of their Intra-Club Trial Games on Sunday 17th January. This was the first opportunity for new RWF XVIs Head Coach, Daine Burnett (AFL Level 3 Accredited Coach) to cast his eyes over the next crop of Demons.
The game was a bit scrambled at first, which is to be expected in the first hit out of the season and the Black Team grab the early advantage in the first term, being aided by a stiff down the ground wind. The Yellow Team fought back in the second quarter and things were even-steven at the main break. Due to the hot conditions, the quarters were reduced to 15 minutes each and both team took 15 minute breaks at the end of each quarter inside the shade of the change rooms.
Head Coach Daine is being supported by David Collard and Dean Mann as his Assistant Coaches and we have been lucky enough to secure a fantastic Team Manager in Garry Hallett and this set up is about to be complemented with the announcement of a third Assistant Coach. So the coaching group was pleased to get a comprehensive first look at their charges under match pressure.
By the end of the game, the two sides broke even and enjoyed the run to get rid of the summer cobwebs. A cool change which brought a thunderstorm with lightning and a few showers, thus curtailing the Recovery Session in the Moora Pool.
A really big thanks to the Moora Mavericks Football Club and the Moora Shire for the use of the first rate Oval and Change Rooms. We use this game to travel into the middle of our Country Zone to give an insight to the Metro Players as to what the Country Players have to contend with each week and it gives us the chance to visit the Country Clubs who provide us with so many wonderful players over the years.
Meanwhile the current generation of players are getting their chance to prove their worth and strive for a spot in the 2016 RWF XVIs Squad. Training and Scratch Matches continue over the next few weeks before the Final Squad is announce and we set ourselves for a huge WAFL 16s Carnival in March-April.
