Former Captain’s Call delivers Etto
A recommendation by former Demon star Paul Bevan has landed promising young midfielder Taran Etto.
The 21 year old played alongside Bevan for the Western Suburbs Football Club in Sydney’s Premier Division competition, and won the club’s best and fairest award last year.
Perth’s former skipper and AFL premiership player was glowing in praise of Etto and says he has all the qualities necessary to play at the highest level.
“He just turned games, and the games we did win he was instrumental and set the scene,” Bevan said.
“He’s clean with the ball, hardness at the ball, and makes good decisions.”
Etto’s signing boosts an already impressive summer recruiting drive for the Demons with former AFL players Clinton Jones, Spencer White and Angus Graham, as well as Laine Wilkins from Peel Thunder.
The youngster was also member of the Greater Western Sydney Academy in the academy’s early stages, where he worked under the tuition of ex-AFL players and coaches including Kevin Sheedy and Ryan Houlihan.
Etto rates his ability to win the hard ball as a major strong point of his, but has since been looking to develop his game even more since coming to Perth.
“Playing over in Sydney I wasn’t always the tallest, so I had to go and win my own footy,” Etto said.
“But playing in Perth there is a lot of open spaces, so I’ll be looking into redeveloping my game.”
Etto joins a strong contingent of midfielders at the Demons, which boasts the likes of 2015 Sandover medallist Aiden Tropiano, Clinton Jones, Liam McKenna, as well as captain Dene White.
Etto says he’s enjoyed the pre-season with his new club and is looking forward to pulling on the red and black jumper against West Perth in round two.
“There’s a really good feeling, and we’re definitely heading upwards from last year.”
